Emergency Preparedness Training

Strong, resilient communities are built on knowledge, training, and hands-on experience. Our training courses empower individuals, community groups, and responders with practical skills to act decisively when it matters most.

All training is scenario-based, ensuring application in real-world emergency situations. We offer two specialised training pathways:

A intensive course covering advanced first aid techniques for complex medical emergencies. Aligns with NZQA Unit Standards 6400, 6401 & 6402, including CPR, AED use, trauma care, airway management, and emergency response coordination.
A practical course teaching safe chainsaw operation for emergency response. Covers NZQA Unit Standard 6917, including safe handling, maintenance, and risk mitigation. Hands-on training with expert instructors.
A civil-defence based training course teaching how to set up, manage, and integrate a Civil Defence Emergency Hub during a disaster. Covers hub roles, emergency needs management, coordination with councils and Civil Defence, and community engagement. Ideal for community leaders, councils, community groups, and volunteers.
A civil-defence based practical course on coordinating and managing spontaneous volunteers during emergencies. Covers volunteer registration, risk management, task allocation, and integration into response efforts. Ideal for community groups and welfare centres.
A practical course teaching how to help whānau and communities evacuate safely during emergencies. Covers NZQA Unit Standard 7302, including assisting vulnerable people, coordinating transport, and supporting evacuations at a community level. Ideal for community groups, councils, and volunteers.
A practical course teaching communities how to establish and manage a community-led emergency hub during disasters. Covers NZQA Unit Standards 7336 & 7330, including coordinating resources, managing welfare services, and organising volunteers. Ideal for community response groups, community emergency hubs, welfare hubs, councils, marae and iwi organisations and volunteers involved in civil defence emergency management.
A practical course teaching communities how to assist in road closures, guide vehicles and pedestrians, and support emergency responders during disasters. Covers NZQA Unit Standard 7332, including setting up cordons, directing traffic, and ensuring safe movement in emergencies.
A practical and theoretical course covering New Zealand’s CIMS framework for emergency response coordination. Learn CIMS principles, roles, resource management, and multi-agency coordination.
A practical course teaching essential two-way radio communication skills for emergency management and community response. Covers NZQA Unit Standard 4573, including radio operation, message relaying, traffic management, and emergency coordination. Suitable for civil defence groups, community groups, councils, emergency services, marae, iwi, schools, and businesses.
A practical course teaching essential first aid skills to respond to medical emergencies. Covers NZQA Unit Standards 6401, 6402 & 6400, including CPR, AED use, wound care, and managing medical conditions.
Developed in partnership with Dave Wood, a leading expert in human performance, stress mitigation, and mindset training, this specialised resilience training teaches how to stay calm, clear-headed, and in control under stress. Learn breathwork, nervous system regulation, and mindset techniques to maintain performance in crises. Ideal for emergency responders, community leaders, businesses, and frontline teams.
A practical course teaching storm damage prevention and property protection. Covers NZQA Unit Standards 23694 & 22297, including securing buildings and property, clearing debris, and storm response planning. Ideal for Civil Defence, councils, community groups, marae, businesses, and emergency responders.
A practical course on providing emotional and psychological support during emergencies. Learn how to recognise mental distress, offer reassurance, and connect people with further help. Ideal for community leaders and groups.
A practical course teaching essential flood response and property protection skills. Covers NZQA Unit Standards 22297 & 23694, including sandbagging techniques, water pump operation, and flood mitigation strategies. Ideal for Civil Defence, councils, community groups, marae, businesses, and volunteers preparing for flood emergencies.
A practical and theoretical course developing leadership and coordination skills for civil defence emergencies. Covers team management, decision-making under pressure, logistics, and communication. Ideal for CDEM teams, community leaders, councils, businesses, and emergency responders.
