about EPOD

emergency pods

EPODs are specialist emergency pods designed by FIRST72 to keep entire communities going through the first 72+ hours of an emergency - and beyond.
Every EPOD is customised to the marae, community, business or response team it serves.
Inside: communications, power, medical supplies, water, emergency food, tools, shelter and everything needed to support hundreds of people for 3+ days during a major event.
EPODs are NZ's most trusted community resilience solution - with 70+ deployed across Aotearoa since 2022.
Used in real emergencies, FIRST72 EPODs were recognised by the NZ Government's Independent Inquiry into Cyclone Gabrielle as a proven model for community resilience.

25 EPODs used by hawke's bay communities in cyclone gabrielle

In February 2023, FIRST72 delivered 25 EPODs to Wairoa marae and community groups just three days before Cyclone Gabrielle.
When it struck, Wairoa was cut off from the rest of the country for weeks, and those EPODs became a critical lifeline for communities when outside help couldn't reach them.
The Government's Independent Inquiry into the Response to Cyclone Gabrielle featured as a proven model for community resilience.
It's a story we're proud of.

FAQs

An EPOD is an emergency pod made from modified shipping containers. They provide essential resources, equipment and a necessary structure to support communities in their response to emergencies and disasters.
All EPODs are customised to the unique needs and risks of your community.  For example, rural communities have much different needs to urban communities as they are more likely to become isolated for prolonged periods without immediate access to resources.  At FIRST72, we focus on emergency preparedness solutions that are fit for purpose for each community.
The cost of an EPOD depends on the level of equipment and resources needed for each community.  However, EPOD packages can range from $30,000 through to $80,000+.  You can request a quote or contact the FIRST72 team for a solution that works for you.
An EPOD can be deployed within your community within 4-6 weeks following confirmation of your order.
Our specifically engineered adjustable EPOD Feet ensures that your EPOD can be deployed on uneven surfaces or materials including gravel, grass or paddocks.

Yes. We can supply cheaper basic emergency containers as a more affordable alternative to an EPOD – fitted out with shelving + workbench and ready to be stocked with your own emergency equipment and supplies. While they don’t meet the same standard or performance as a EPOD, they can be a great starting point for communities who don’t have the budget for a full EPOD. Starting from $10,000 + GST and delivery. Reach out to us if you’re interested.
