EPOD

When communities are cut-off,
EPODs keep them running

EPODs® are specialist emergency pods that keep entire communities going for 7+ days

community preparedness

How many days are you good for?

Communities need to be able to look after themselves for 7+ days.

Severe weather events are hitting harder and more often. When they do, roads close, power and comms go down, and help can take days to arrive. Civil Defence asks every community to be prepared to stand on its own, because in the first days of a major event, the response starts with you.

we get it

Getting prepared can feel overwhelming. But it doesn't have to be.

Knowing where to start is the hardest part, so we start with you.

Most communities know they should be better prepared. But between funding, equipment, logistics and training, it’s a big job to carry alone. We’ve walked it with many communities, marae and councils across the country, and we’ve turned it into a clear, manageable path.

THE ANSWER

Emergency response, inside a container

EPODs® are specialist emergency pods that keep entire communities self-sufficient for 7+ days.

Solar and generator power, communications, response equipment, clean water, emergency food, medical and shelter. All configured to your community and ready from the moment the doors open. So when help can’t reach you, you can survive on your own until it does.

the change

From cut-off to self-sufficient

EPODs® change what disaster means for your community.

Without a plan, an isolated community waits, in the dark, out of touch, hoping help comes soon. With an EPOD on site, the same community powers up, gets connected, and starts running its own response within the hour. Same event, completely different story.

THE RESULT

Up to 1,000 people, surviving on their own for 7+ days

Powered, connected, fed, sheltered and safe for 7+ days, until help arrives.

That’s what being ready actually looks like. A community that can take care of its people through the worst days, and come out stronger. Being ready before it’s needed, and there when it counts.

FAQs

An EPOD is an emergency pod made from modified shipping containers. They provide essential resources, equipment and a necessary structure to support communities in their response to emergencies and disasters.
All EPODs are customised to the unique needs and risks of your community.  For example, rural communities have much different needs to urban communities as they are more likely to become isolated for prolonged periods without immediate access to resources.  At FIRST72, we focus on emergency preparedness solutions that are fit for purpose for each community.
The cost of an EPOD depends on the level of equipment and resources needed for each community.  However, EPOD packages can range from $30,000 through to $80,000+.  You can request a quote or contact the FIRST72 team for a solution that works for you.
An EPOD can be deployed within your community within 4-6 weeks following confirmation of your order.
Our specifically engineered adjustable EPOD Feet ensures that your EPOD can be deployed on uneven surfaces or materials including gravel, grass or paddocks.

Yes. We can supply cheaper basic emergency containers as a more affordable alternative to an EPOD – fitted out with shelving + workbench and ready to be stocked with your own emergency equipment and supplies. While they don’t meet the same standard or performance as a EPOD, they can be a great starting point for communities who don’t have the budget for a full EPOD. Starting from $10,000 + GST and delivery. Reach out to us if you’re interested.

EPOD projects

AMI believes that New Zealand communities can do more to prepare for the impacts of extreme weather and recognised the proven impact of FIRST72’s EPODs in events like Cyclone Gabrielle.

AMI Insurance has partnered with FIRST72 again – this time to put a fully-equipped EPOD® Flood Response Trailer in the hands of the Pōhutukawa Coast Community Response Team (PCCRT).

Funded by the NEMA CDEM Resilience Fund, this project focuses on establishing alternate Emergency Coordination Centres (ECCs) and Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) for WCEM.
