Supporting Wairoa: FIRST72 Partners with Task Force Kiwi After June 26 Floods

At FIRST72, our mission is to change the way we prepare and respond to natural disasters and emergencies. We are deeply committed to assisting those affected by the recent floods in Wairoa, where approximately 120 homes were flooded, and hundreds of residents were forced to evacuate. In collaboration with Taskforce Kiwi, we have helped mobilize efforts to provide essential assistance to affected whānau.

Thanks to funding secured through the Eastern & Central Community Trust, FIRST72 has helped facilitate the deployment of Taskforce Kiwi volunteers to the flood-affected area. These dedicated volunteers have been instrumental in the ongoing recovery efforts, focusing initially on debris clearance and ensuring residents can address moisture issues in their homes by distributing firewood throughout the community.

The tasks undertaken by Taskforce Kiwi align closely with the priorities identified by local authorities, ensuring that resources are allocated where they are most needed. This collaborative approach not only aids in immediate relief but also lays the groundwork for long-term recovery and community resilience.

As we continue to navigate these challenging times together, FIRST72 remains dedicated to standing with the people of Wairoa. Our partnership with Taskforce Kiwi exemplifies our core values of making a strong, positive social impact and championing a unified and collaborative approach to emergency and disaster management.

At FIRST72, we are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by disasters, ensuring they have the support they need to rebuild and thrive. Together with Taskforce Kiwi, we are making strides towards a stronger, more resilient New Zealand.
