Flood EPOD: Community Flood Protection

06 November 2024

In light of recent severe weather events, including Cyclone Gabrielle, the Wairoa floods, and flooding in Dunedin, communities across New Zealand have faced unprecedented challenges. These events have shown the critical need for rapid-response flood management solutions that can protect lives, infrastructure, and essential resources in the midst of a flood emergency. That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of our latest product: the Flood POD.

The Flood POD is specifically designed to equip communities with a versatile, ready-to-deploy solution for flood mitigation and emergency preparedness. Built to support rapid deployment in high-stakes situations, this innovative container pod is stocked with tools and resources tailored to each community’s needs. It’s the latest addition to our range of emergency preparedness solutions and stands as a testament to our commitment to helping New Zealand communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Why the Flood POD?

Events like Cyclone Gabrielle and the recent Wairoa and Dunedin floods have underscored the speed and unpredictability with which flood conditions can develop. In each of these instances, communities had limited time to act as waters rose rapidly, cutting off access, damaging property, and placing immense pressure on emergency response teams.

The Flood POD was created to help communities prepare for exactly these types of situations, providing a centralized hub of flood mitigation resources that can be activated at a moment’s notice. With tools like Floody Flood Barriers—including Straight, Inner and Outer Curve, and Edge Seal pieces—communities can create flexible flood defenses that adapt to the specific environment and conditions.

Key Features of the Flood POD
  1. Customizable Flood Mitigation Equipment: The Flood POD’s contents are tailored to each community’s unique requirements. Inside, you’ll find a full range of Floody Flood Barriers, ensuring that communities can quickly create effective barriers in high-risk areas.
  2. High-Capacity Water Management: Equipped with a WX10 Honda Water Pump, 3m suction hose, and camlock connections, the Flood POD is ideal for managing dirty water during flood events. The POD also includes secure storage for fuel and oil, ensuring the pump remains operational for extended use when it’s needed most.
  3. Convenient and Efficient Access: To facilitate rapid deployment, the Flood POD features a side roller door, allowing responders to quickly access and deploy the barriers, pump, and other essential tools.
  4. Built-In Power and Ventilation: For areas without reliable power, the Flood POD is equipped with an EU70IS Honda generator, allowing communities to stay powered even in remote or compromised conditions. With ventilation modifications, interior lighting, USB and wall power outlets, and an external power plug, the POD is ready to operate independently and support flood management efforts effectively.
Preparedness in Action

As communities reflect on the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle, the Wairoa floods, and recent flooding in Dunedin, the Flood POD offers a proactive approach to flood readiness. This product is designed to equip communities with practical, flexible solutions that make a difference when it matters most.
