Northbridge retirement village protected with FIRST72 Floody® Flood Barrier system

Northbridge retirement village was impacted during the Auckland Anniversary floods but is now protected by a fully customised FIRST72 Floody® Flood Barrier system – designed, supplied and installed by FIRST72.

The site sits in an area where floodwater pushed through the property during the 2023 event, affecting the basement carpark and ground-floor units. With a community of older residents to look after, the village wanted a practical low-cost solution that could be deployed quickly by on-site staff before the next major weather event.

Designed around the site

Every property is different, and a flood barrier system only works if it actually fits the building. FIRST72 worked closely with the property team to map the flow paths around the site, identify the points where water enters and design a barrier layout tailored to those vulnerabilities – including the basement carpark entrance, ground-floor garage doors and the surrounding driveways.

The completed system protects over 100+ metres of building perimeter and is engineered so that a small team can fully deploy it in under 10 minutes.

The FIRST72 Floody® Flood Barrier is a reusable, modular flood protection system FIRST72 supplies across New Zealand. One Floody barrier replaces the equivalent of around 16 sandbags, can be deployed by a small team without specialist equipment, and stores compactly on-site between uses. It’s now in use at residential complexes, commercial premises and communities around the country.
