FIRST72 are community resilience experts.
Since 2022, we’ve worked with 26 councils to deliver regional projects, develop community emergency hubs and marae, deploy EPODs, implement Tier 3 communications networks, provide training to community volunteers, supply bulk emergency equipment and kits, prepare marae resilience programmes and support community groups through tough times.
We partner with councils to help with heavy lifting, so they can focus on what matters most.
Wairoa District Council
Wairoa is one of NZ’s most isolated regions. It has been repeatedly impacted by severe weather events and ongoing flooding of the Wairoa River. FIRST72 worked with the WDC to deploy 31 EPODs across the region. We have also equipped 25+ marae and community groups and delivered training to volunteers across Wairoa.

Following Cyclone Gabrielle, NCC established 21 community emergency hubs. FIRST72 partnered with the NCC to supply customised emergency kits to those hubs. We also delivered a SMART EPOD for a community group on Napier Hill to support the potential evacuation of 10,000 people from the CBD in the event of a tsunami. We continue to work with NCC on further developing and training their community hubs.

Auckland Council is NZ’s largest council and has 200+ community hubs and marae across the region. FIRST72 has worked collaboratively with Auckland Council and AEM to deliver several EPODs to at-risk communities, including one project delivered in partnership with AMI Insurance. We have also supported the development of Tier 3 communications networks for community groups and equipped hubs across the region from Piha to Great Barrier Island and everywhere in between.
